GHTA Vice President Russell Fielden Receives OBE
The Grenada Hotel & Tourism Association (GHTA) congratulates Russell (Russ) Fielden owner of the True Blue Bay Resort, GHTA Vice President, on being a worthy recipient of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contribution to Grenada’s Tourism industry.
He Said: “I am very pleased and flattered in receiving this award and it could not been achieved without the support of the GHTA, Ministry of Tourism and other stakeholders in the industry”
Russ Fielden OBE has been working in the Yacht Chartering and Hospitality Industries for almost 30 years, in locations including: Mexico, the South Pacific and the Caribbean. He and his wife, Magdalena Fielden, bought the True Blue Bay Resort in 1998, which has grown substantially over the years and has recently been certified as a Green Globe 4 Star Hotel.
Fielden OBE sat on the Board of Directors of the GHTA, from 1999 to present, altering between President and Vice President. He has represented the GHTA on the Boards of TAMCC and the Grenada Board of Tourism and presently sits on the Steering Committee of MAREP, the Board of Directors of the Ports Authority along with several other Boards and Committees.
Mr Fielden has a passion for Grenada’s hospitality sector and the community. He has invested a great deal of time nurturing the children of various communities on the importance of Grenada’s tourism industry to the development of the country and how rewarding it can be as a career. In 2012, he was instrumental in the rebuilding of the Vendome School, which was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004, having raised the US $100,000 needed to ensure that the school’s pupils receive their education in a pleasant environment.
