Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association
Property Details
Description
Established on March 8, 1947, through a legislative act, the Grenada Co-operative Nutmeg Association (GCNA) operates as a cooperative and serves as the sole exporter of Grenadian nutmegs. GCNA's primary objectives are to safeguard and promote the interests of the nutmeg industry, assist farmers in improving their products at both local and international markets, and reduce price competition among exporters to stabilize market rates.
Governed by a nine-member Board of Directors, GCNA includes six directors elected by nutmeg farmers and three appointed by the Minister overseeing the association. A competent Management Team implements the Board's decisions, with the General Manager handling business operations in conjunction with the chairperson.
As the Association looks to further develop its facility in Beaulieu, St. George’s, to expand operations to meet customer demand, it aims to increase the production of nutmeg value-added products currently produced at the site. Presently, the association provides a variety of nutmeg and spice-based products through its manufacturing capabilities, Nutmeg Museum Tours, and a conference room.
This 75-year-old farmers’ cooperative is a recognized global brand with an active membership of about 3,500 farmers. Its primary products include nutmeg and mace, as well as value-added nutmeg products utilizing every part of the raw material.
