Grenadian Hotels and Businesses Treat Mt. Gay Patients and Staff to Sumptuous Lunch
The patients and staff of the Mt Gay Hospital were treated to a delicious lunch in honour of Mental Health Month on October 30, 2015. Hotels and businesses came together to provide a special treat that was well received by patients and staff of the hospital.
The Calabash Hotel, Coyaba Beach Resort, Flamboyant Hotel, La Luna, Sandals La Source, Spice Island Beach Resort, Grenadian by rex resorts, Marketing Board and Island Catering all contributed to a gourmet feast to the delight of all who participated in the event. One patient said, ‘this is like Christmas’ while another said, ‘I ate so much I can’t even eat the supper tonight’.
Mental illness carries stigma and discrimination due to lack of understanding and education. Many families are torn apart because they have difficulties in dealing with a family member with mental illness.
Events, such as this, show that these patients are not forgotten, our hospitality sector was generous in their contribution and the gesture was very much appreciated.
